Nancy's Story
I always wanted to be a Counselor/Social Work when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was an odd thing for a little kid to say. As it turns out, they were pleased that I accomplished my goal.
I relax by playing golf, getting together with friends, traveling, I love the ocean and beaches. I'm constantly working so any free time is relaxing to me.
The wildest thing I ever did in school..........I'm not telling lol.
My heroes were my parents. I could not have had better role models or teachers. They knew how to enjoy life and had a strong sense of morals and values. I was blessed to have great parents and a wonderful sister.
I went to Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton Florida. After I graduated I came back to Champaign for 6 months. Missed South Florida and returned to Deerfield Beach which is about 15 miles north of Fort Lauderdale. I remained in Deerfield Beach for 20 years.
I have a 13 year old female Siamese cat named K.C. When my mother passed away suddenly on February 16, 2010 she had a beautiful 8 year old black and white male cat named Babe....Expand for more
Babe is now living with K.C. and I. They are great pals and they are very entertaining when they play.
I have never lived in a dorm. I had an apartment off campus one block from the beach.
I'm looking forward retiring in 18 months and going back to South Florida.
I have worked as a counselor/social worker for 37 years. I am a certified Drug/Alcohol Counselor and Registered MISA II (Mental Illness and Substance Abuse). I also have worked in variety of modalities such as; Rape/Incest Counselor; Department of Corrections running a Drug/Alcohol Therapeutic Community; State of Florida Health and Rehabilitative Services; Terminal Cancer patients; Geriatic population and my current posititon is Mental Health Clinician/Crisis Counsleor.
I share my home with 2 cats, which I find that it's really their house and they just let me stay here lol.
I wouldn't change anything about my life. It's been very interesting and challenging at times. I've met allot of wonderful interesting people along the way.
In 2 years, I hope to be living on the beach. I'm going to get there by 2016.
