Nancy's Story

Life Right after high school I attended our church bible college in Baxter Springs, KS and finished three terms in 1959. In between school terms and during the summer months I was privileged to help in VBS, youth camps, etc. all the while traveling to several different states which were places I never would have had the chance to visit otherwise.I made many lifelong friends who will always be a very special part of my life. During the Thanksgiving Day afternoon in 1961 I met my husband, Dale, while cruising main in Laverne, OK. with two of my friends. We were married at a country church several miles from Laverne called Midway Country Church.I was 23. We are the proud parents of four children, 3 boys and l girl, who were and are the joy of my life. Our daughter had a heart transplant after contracting cardiomyopathy soon after her second son was born. She passed away not quite two years later at the age of 23 leaving two young sons, 2 & 4. They stayed with us for nearly 2 years while their father finished school and got settled in a new job. It was so hard to see them leave and go 400 miles away from us as they are our only daughter's children. Our 3 boys live from 150 to 1200 miles from us scattered from Kansas & Oklahoma all the way to Georgia! We have 4...Expand for more
grandsons and 2 granddaughters which really make getting old-"er" lots of fun! While our 4 were growing up I worked part-time at the Laverne school and then full-time at the Laverne grocery store for nearly 7 years before they claimed chapter 11 and in the aftermath we all lost our jobs. Since then I've worked part-time at the newspaper office, a flower shop, a gift shop and an "exercise--tanning" shop. I am enjoying retirement immensely with time to do all those crafts I love plus learning to navigate around the computer little by little although I am still somewhat intimidated by it. My husband is a heavy equipment operator and still drives a truck some, but not as extensively as he once did. He had congestive heart failure several years ago, but at his last checkup the doctor said his heart was as good as some who had never had a heart attack. Modern medicine does do miracles once in a while. I have had a good life regardless of the bad times that we all must go through. It's true some seem to have more than others, but being positive and letting God be your guide is the best medicine for whatever ails anyone. I would love to hear from my "old" classmates...if you would care to send me an email I will do my best to answer you as soon as possible.
