Nancy's Story
Going to try to keep this timeline brief but as we're nearing "Senior status" again, there's a lot to say.
Graduated WHS May 1970
Stephen F Austin Sep 1970-Dec1971
Married Clint Kendrick and moved to Georgia then to Italy in early 1972
'72-'74 - Lived in Pisa and worked in the Library and NCO Club at Camp Darby
'74-'82 - Army Psych Tech in Kansas, Germany then back to Ft. Sam as an instructor
1975 - Lost our mother in August and gave birth to Jason in October
'82-'85 back to school (UTSA and UTHSCSA) for nursing degree
'85 - Got divorced, graduated, went back into the Army
'85 - '90 Psych nursing course then staff nurse at Ft Gordon, GA.
'90 -'92 Officer Advanced Course then Graduate School (CWRU, Cleveland, OH)
'92-'97 Army Nurse - worked inpatient, Combat Stress Control, and back to Head Nurse Inpatient Psych
'94-'95 Deployed to Guantanamo Bay to set up psych unit for Cuban and Haitian refugees
then outpatient Mental Health Clinic for all 5 services
'97 - retired and after brief stint with Senior Psychology Ser...Expand for more
vices became Dir. of Psych Services in Palestine, TX
'97 - Lost Daddy in August -- strange to be an orphan, even at 45
2005 - left hospital and started N-Lighten Up! Stress Management Wellness Center
2006 - Depleted savings so went to work for UTMB Correctional Care as Psychiatric Provider, still there after 13 years, now back in inpatient ordering meds, etc. for a 50 bed acute inpatient unit, primarily Ad Seg offenders. Retiring again at the end of the year for lots of travel in 2020.
2011 - lost sister Gail to Liver Cancer due to Hep C. All her friends then signed up for the treatment
2015 - Diagnosed with breast cancer real early. Went to CTCA in Phoenix for lumpectomy and radiation and to be treated like royalty (important part of healing)
Aug '19- 6 month checkup and all is well.
Other: Into Central and South American mystical history -- been to Mexico and the Maya ruins twice and to Peru once so far. Sedona, AZ is a frequent stop for me. Have lots of friends there and love the energy and "weirdness" of the place.
