Nancy's Story
I am Nancy Cogswell who graduated in 1954 fromo La Porte High School. I was a drum majorette with the high school band.
I joined the Marine Corps in September of 1954, married my recruited and have traveled the world. I've lived in Turkey one year, Germany 3 years, Greece one year and Saudi Arabis 7 1/2 years. I live in San Diego Ca. and have lived here off and on since 1956. I love Califormia but it's so expensive to live here.
I am still best friends with Shirley Heilscher who lives in Tucson, AZ and is a nurse. I met Shirley when I moved to La Porte in my Junior year in high school and we've been best friends ever since. She came to help me take care of my husband when he was dying of Cancer and stayed with me for almost 5 months. ...Expand for more
She is a true friend. I was widowed for 5 years but recently married a wonderful man who is a Pearl Harbor suvivor, a retired Navy Captain and was also a widower. We met through the Military Widow and Widowers group. I am active with military organizations.
I still work part time as an Instructor at a Career Center run by Grossmont Union High School District. I teach Career Classes and Job Search Workshop. I help people write resumes, interview, salary negotiations, and anything else they need to get a job. I am a retired Social Worker and have also taught at Grossmont Community College after retiring. I love to work and thank God he keeps me healthy enough to keep doing what I love. Would love to hear from former friends in La Porte.
