Nancy's Story

Sharon, Sorry this has taken me so long to respond. I could never figure out how to do so without paying to join. So glad to hear that you and Joe are doing well, and the kids are grown. Isn't it amazing how life just moves so fast? I still can't believe we are over 60 years old. How did that happen. First the family....my three bio kids are Tom, Shelley and Craig. Tom lives in Akron, has been out of work for the past 6 months and is now going to truck driving school. Hard life for him. Two bad choices for wives.......and our grandson, his son from his first marriage, committed suicide 3 years ago. Wes was the love of Charlie and my life and we are still recovering. Long ugly story. Shelley lives in Lubbock, Texas where she is Assistant Director of the Student Disabilities staff at Texas Tech University and is working on her PH.D. She has 3 children. Her husband is Director of the Student Union there. Craig is an at home Dad. His wife works near us and they live in Norwalk. Two great kids and we hope one day that Craig will find a way to use his "Creative Writing" BA. He's an amazing guy and gives us lots of support. When I remarried I gained 3 step-children, Chris, Eric and Cassie. Chris and Eric live in Kentucky. Cassie and her husband twin 14 year olds live about 30 minutes from us. We have a great relationship. Then, as if that wasn't enough, I brought home 3...Expand for more
children from my inner-city church when their parents were incarcerated for selling drugs and child endangerment. We adopted them as soon as the system did their work. David is now 31 and is a United Methodist minister in Woodsfield, Ohio. He and his wife have no children yet. Jennifer is an ultrasound tech in Phoenix and she and her husband have two children. And Samantha got married this past June and she is a school teacher, although soon to be without work. Charlie is the love of my life, and have been married for 24 years this year. Amazing to me. He has been retired since we brought the kids home and spends his time doing community work and serving on the local school board. I am still a United Methodist minister but have been appointed to serve as President/CEO of one of our children's agencies, Flat Rock Homes. Look up our website. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last September (a year ago) and have been through 4 surgeries (2 lumpectomies, a port placement and a mastectomy) and chemo and hormone therapy. I am about to start radiation. Then I have one more surgery next summer. All is well. I have had a great sense of peace since t he beginning. And great faith that I would be healed. Amazing doctors at the Seidman Center at University Hospitals. I really feel like the worst is behind me. I am so glad to be in touch. Stay in touch. Love to you, Nancy
