Nancy's Story
Life
Went to Ark. Tech for 1 month in '69,, diagnosed a Diabetic and started at Westark in Feb. '70. Met Dale Eric Allen the first week, got engaged July 11 and married Dec. 11. Dale joined Air Force and we lived 4 yrs. in Texas. Got out and he got nursing degree at Westark, where I worked. He got commissioned in AF in 1978. Our son Geoffrey Colin was born Jan. 14, 1980 and daughter Erica Adele on Jan. 13, 1986. Dale was stationed in Louisiana, Colorado, North Carolina, Germany, Texas and Ohio. Traveled to Paris, London, Rome Yugoslavia and many places in all directions from Germany while overseas. Dale retired from AF in 1998. Geoff married Katie Dec. 1999, and grandson Colin was born in Alaska, July 4, 2000. Spent last two years traveling to Alaska 7 times, and many trips with Erica's band including Beavercreek's Marching Bands trip, at Mayor's request, to New York City for Veteran's Day Parade Nov. 2001. Done more in my life, skiing, traveling, spulunking, volksmarching, leader in my Church, just to name a few, than I ever imagined at Alma High School.

d as I got out in the world. I was elected Class Secretary my Senior Year. It was the best thing that I remember from school. Unfortunately I didn't DO anything. Wish I had done more, dated, and generally let others know who I was inside. Everyone would truly have been surprised!
College
I attended Arkansas Tech only a few weeks the fall of 1969. I became very ill and was diagnosed a diabetic. Returning home, I then attended Westark Community College from Feb. 1970 through Dec. 1970. I majored in Elementary Ed, but met my husband Dale, got married and never got a college degree.
Workplace
I worked as the Secretary of the Division of Humanities at Westark Junior College (formerly Westark Community College) from July 1974-Aug. 1978. My boss was Walter Minniear who was also Conductor of the Fort Smith Symphony of which I was also the secretary. I quit when my husband finished nursing school at Westark, worked at St. Edwards Hospital for a year and then was commissioned in the Air Force. We started a family and began 20 plus years of traveling with the military and I officially retired from the work force.
