Nannette's Story
1976. I had been dating Rich Chase's older brother Charlie. I wanted to see what life was like outside Campbell so moved to Raleigh N. Carolina. Had family there. The KKK still had a billboard along the highway-wow! It was quite a cultural shock but a beautiful and lush state. Charlie wanted to join in on my adventure so he came out and we headed North to summer in Escanaba Michigan. After a short summer, back down to N Carolina. We decided it was time to get married - it was the South and NOT at all "OK" to live together. Had our first son, Adam, in 1980. Three months later we moved to So. Oregon. town-no diversity or culture allowed. It was a huge adjustment. Along came our second son Eric in 1981. Charlie became a firefighter with the city and after 15 years he moved on to work as a Deputy State Fire Marshal. I worked for the school district for 13 years after staying home until both boys were in school. Now I work for the County handling land use and building code violations. After 29 years here, I love it. The town has grown and evolved just enough. It really was a nice haven to raise our sons. We feel so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. Charlie and I will have our 33rd anniversary this August. "Life is not about the destination, it's about the journey."
