Naomi's Story
Life
After high school, I went to Fresno State for two years,then got married and had two children. After 15 years of marriage I divorced and returned to college and three years later received my bachelor's degree in Criminology. I thought that was a good accomplishment, but whoever coordinated the graduation event, seated me behind the people who were receiving their master's degrees, so right there and then, I decided I needed to have a colorful hood too. Seven years would pass before I accomplished that task, but finally received a master's degree in Counseling. My two children spent their formative years watching their mother go to school, but ultimately the sacrifice was to their benefit. work, no two days are the same, and even though it is a stressful occupation, it is for these same reasons that I'm still connected to Child Welfare. In my current position, I'm the Social Work Training Supervisor for Monterey County Department of Social and Employment Services. Although my initial fear was that I would freeze or shake uncontrollably when presenting in front of a group, I quickly learned that I was really a stage ham at heart. So, YES, I work in Monterey County, Salinas, CA and recently returned to Fresno. I stay with a friend during my 4 day work week and commute to Fresno on the weekends. My children are grown and I have three granddaughters ranging in age from 8 to 14. They are, of course, the most beautiful girls on the face of this earth and primarily why I have returned to the Fresno area to live.
