Naomi's Story
Where to begin? I have continued to live only in Wichita - building my first home myself, followed by three other homes in which I joined forces with a builder in which I lived in two of them. Have stayed put, now living on the East side of Wichita, continuing to update/remodel a home that I have lived in since 1993. I married my high school sweetheart, Steve Anderson, once he returned from West Point two years after high school. We both graduated from WSU in 1974 & both went on for our master degrees in School Administration & Supervision. Had two children in 1977 & 1980, a son & a daughter. I then began commuting to KU when my daughter was six months old & son was 2 1/2 years & obtained my second master's in 1984 in School Social Work. I have always worked as a social worker & in December, 1975 was hired by USD #259 Wichita Public Schools. For the past 16 years I have been the social worker at Northwest High School, home of the Grizzlies! I have been blessed with a happy marriage, a wonderful husband, & two remarkable children. My son, Josh, lives in Keller, TX. as a district manager for the Dallas area with Alcon Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company. He & his wife have one son, Braden (turned one in May) & is a cutie! My daughter, Lindsey, just completed her master's in May from WSU in school social work so will take the social worker exam for the State of Ks. & hopefully pass & obtain a job. She & her husband have one son, Tommy (turned one in May) & is also a cutie! I thoroughly enjoy baseball & kept the stats for a semi-professional team for several years along with helping out my high school with both boys baseball & girls softball but am now retired from that. I love dancing & my husband indulged me with ballroom dancing lessons which I truly miss but had to quit after an accident that has lead to two surgeries & much rehab with my left arm. No money when Steve & I first married as 20 year olds & college students, w...Expand for more
e learned how to play bridge & that has served us well now that we are older as we continue to enjoy & participate in a bridge dinner club. We have always tried to keep God in our lives which proved to be a wise decision as in March, 2008 we did a family cruise to Honduras & Belize to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. On the second day of the cruise, once we ported at Honduras, was eventful as our shore excursion was on a moped to take pictures of the coastland & ocean. Hitting a pothole that was hidden by sand as we crossed a ravene, Steve was thrown from the moped hitting a fence post & breaking 5 ribs, crushing his right shoulder & puncturing one of his lungs. I collided with the barb wire fence which severed my bicep muscle of a left arm & had a compound fracture to my left humerus bone. After two surgeries, a plate & ten screws implanted & much physical therapy I have an arm & it works although not real pretty! Steve has totally recuperated although had only 36 hours left to live until he finally received a chest tube once we were flown back to US (Miami) to the Jackson Memorial Trauma Center for care. I had to have a second surgery in August, 2009 to replace the old plate & screws - plate was too short & not enough screws from the first surgery. We are lucky to be alive & my kids were great taking on the US Embassy! There is a lot to be said about 3rd World Countries & their Health System. Currently I have eight weeks off for summer from the school system & am enjoying the sun, working out at the Y & working on my 40th high school reunion! We all have a story to tell - happy or sad, the reunion gives me a time to smile & say hello to people I have not seen for many years as well as meet classmates that I now regret not knowing in high school. Each of you classmates that might read this, I hope you will take the time & make the effort to attend the reunion August 6 - 7, 2010 as I would love to give you a hug!
