Naomi's Story
Life
Spent 20 years living in different "burroughs" in Somerville, MA where I ran the gamut of jobs in public relations and special events including Performing Arts Consultants, the Museum of Transportation (PR Dir), and 5 years as an account coordinator at a Boston agency. Worked extensively during those years as a volunteer with Boston Cares and Family Table, among other organizations.
Burned out from 7 day work weeks in PR, I took time off, and through a temp job ended up working in the field of spare parts logistics. I worked with this company for 10 years then got laid off due to "reorg" - whatever the heck that means. My position as Program Account Manager was eliminated. I worked part time with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and AAA Southern New England as an emergency road service counselor. I was thinking about pursuing another career such as graphic or web design. I've taken a Drawing and Painting course at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) where they offer Certificate Programs in a variety of related fields. I might...Expand for more
try something less expensive such as URI however, if I decide to go ahead with the training.
Then four weeks ago my best friend who works at Rhode Island School of Design called me. It was urgent....so here I am, now Department Coordinator, School of Architecture at RISD! My sister attended this extraordinary school and graduated with honors in illustration. She lives in Israel now with two sons, my nephews! along with two dogs 3 guinea pigs etc.
6 or so years ago I adopted a house bunny from RI's Sweet Binks Rabbit Rescue. I named him Scooter Pumpk'n and have helped out at the annual benefit events for the shelter. He's my best buddy pal...he's like my child.
I've never been married or had children, but am ok with that for now.
My mother, Judith Roth, is a well known Chicago artist, lives in an artist's loft in the city and is going strong at 74! I try to visit for a long weekend at least once a year. But I have not been able to afford it over the last two or three years.
Got my first real paycheck in two years! Yippeee!
