Narda's Story
Got married right out of HS, had three kids, got divorced 15yrs later, remarried two years later, moved to NJ. after 8yrs got divorced, moved to Long Island. Got married again (yes, AGAIN) and this one is for keeps. How do I know? because 25yrs ago I dreamt of this. Yes, I actually saw it in my dreams, only it did not feel like any dream I've ever had and I never forgot it. I looked for a sign everywhere I turn but nothing.... so I kept on living and wondering and now I'm here. I still can't believe this is my life now. My children are grown, I've been able to get a BA in Graphics Design and now pursuing my masters in Information Technology. Don't remember many people from HS although in retrospect it really was the most amazing time in my young life. I was too shy/quiet to make friends and those who approached me probably didn't know what to make of me. ought all my clothes from thrift shops, partly because I had no money and I only had a part-time job at a laundromat making around $4.50/hr but also I saw it as a way to "stick it to the man" and living on my own, sorta (lived with my grandmother) lol. It made sense at the time. Then I changed to a more "corporate look" with skirts, long sleeve blouses and a bow I added made out of a wide black ribbon, sneakers (were more like some canvas shoes I bought for $6 for each pair ( I had 2pairs) from TomMcann's on 14th St, white socks and stockings. LOL. I really loved that look! I'm a lot more "mellow" now but I still prefer to make my own rules which puts me at odds with more traditional types but the idea of just "fitting in" scares me. Life is too short to live by someone else's rules. I think we need to make ourselves happy first 'cause if we don't, who will? This is just my takeaway from the life I've lived. Do your best and never, ever, settle.
