Natalie's Story
Life
I once was shy, but look at me now. It may have taken a while, but I am very different from my school days.
I am currently C.E.O. of a non-profit corporation called the Challenger Foundation. This organization provides day care, day camp and respite for families with disabled children or adults. With plans to expand and add more loctions as well as group homes or apartments for independant living for mentally and physically challenged adults. This keeps me very busy.
In 1968 I married a man who had four children. All of course are now grown and have children. After our marriage Harold and I adopted an infant.

Harold and I divorced after 9 yrs of marriage. He is now deceased.
In 1983 I gave birth to a girl with down syndrome. This introduced me to the world of disabilities. I have since adopted 3 more girls with mental retardation, one of them has down syndrome. These girls were 8,9 and 13 when I adopted them. Now are all grown. Only one has moved into her own apartment; so I still have a houseful.I am working on teaching them how to live in group homes or supervised apartments. The youngest, the birth child is now 17 and doing well too.
I am still single, but feel that my work and my training these children is very rewarding.
