Kassian (fka Natasha) is from Minneapolis, His schools include Central High School, Lake Harriet Open School, South High School, , Southwest Junior High School, He later attended University of Minnesota (ba: African History and Literature), Hampshire College (African History & Literature). Indiana University (MS, abd: African Literature & Film. He worked at Black Film Center/Archive, Black Camera, Aichi University, and taught for 20+ years at Indiana University: in the Comparative Literature and African-American and African Diaspora Studies Depts.
