Nataya's Story
Life
I have lived in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area all my life. I now live in Upper Marlboro, Md. I have three children of my own and one stepdaughter. I met my husband in 1983, Jerome Battle, Jr., we had a daughter in 1984, and we got married in 1992. I have 9 grandchildren. My husband went home to be with the Lord in 1999 after being sick for 18 months with a rare condition called Devic Syndrome.
I was a member of Evangel Cathredral, located in Upper Marlboro, MD for 39 years and was a ordained deacon, an altar worker, and a ministry leader with AWANA, a children's Bible club. I became a member of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden in December 2016 and I volunteer as a Connect Group Leader in the Unashamed Youth Ministry. I am also a certified Altar Worker.
I started working for the government in a stay-in-school program at age 16 and worked my last 2 years of high school. I attended Dunbar High School for a half day in the 11th grade and worked a half day. In the 12th grade I worked in the day and went to school a night at Spingarn STAY....Expand for more
I went to Federal City College (which merged with DC Teachers College to become UDC) and later went to UDC.
I retired in January 2010 with 39 years of service from the Office of Personnel Management as a Sr. Policy Analyst. I wrote and interpreted policy and drafted Federal regulations in reference to the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, the Office of Federal Employees Group Life Insurance Program, and other Federal employee benefit programs.
I drive a Nissan Quest minivan and a GMC Denali XL. I need large vehicles in order to fit all of my grandchildren.
I vacation each year with friends and family and we go on cruises and to various vacations spots.
I enjoy plays, concerts, eating out, and going to movies. Sometimes I find time to read a good book. Currently I have several books that I purchased to read.
I sure would like to hear from some of you who maybe grew up in the area of 5th and M Streets, N.W. in the 60's, or in Congress Heights, S.E. in the late 60's and the 70's. I hope everyone is having a good life because I certainly am!
