Life As soon as I was able, I joined the Army. I spent 3 years operating heavy equipment in Alaska and Oklahoma until I was honorably discharged. I came home with a wife and 2 children and found that jobs were nearly impossible to find. This was right after the VietNam conflict and times were tough for everyone. It didn't take long to find out that if I didn't get moving I would end up on welfare like so many others at that time, so I moved to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I worked at Hess Oil Company there for 1 year until my wife convinced me that it wasn't a good place to bring up our children. As it turns out, to her, there was no good place, and we spent the next five years just traveling and looking for something. ( I never found out what). Finally I had enough and moved back home, a place my wife refused to go to, so I started over by myself.
