I worked about twenty years as a computer programmer, earning a couple of patents along the way. Sick to death of it, I finally went back to my real ("humanities") interests in theatre and creative writing. In the last few years I have had a couple of short one-act plays produced at small theatres in Chicago, and I've also written two full-length screenplays, one of which was a finalist in a recent contest sponsored by the Illinois and Chicago Film Offices. I've also had a number of essays (and theatre reviews) published in various Chicago newspapers. Still no girlfriend, alas. But I treasure the memory of every woman I've been fond of over the years, from grade school and junior high to high school and beyond. And with the tragic death (from cancer) of my sister last year, and my dad's passing years ago (also from cancer) at only age 59, I've been confronted with the realization that the end is far nearer than the beginning... and have come to realize the value of, and cherish, all things.
