Nelda's Story
Life
I have been married for 36 years, moved around a lot, lived in Germany for 9 years, finally settled in Moore, OK. Raised 4 children, 1 Daughter, 3 sons. All 3 sons served in the US Army, eldest served his time and got out, 2nd one went to Desert Storm, served his time, came home safe and sound, he went to school and is now a CT Technician in a local hospital. Our youngest joined the Army in 1996, last tour was in Schofield Barracks, HI with the 25th Inf. Div. Aviation Regiment, then they were deployed to Afghanistan and he lost his life on 12 Aug 2004 due to pilot negligence and misconduct. He turned 30 on Aug 10, ...Expand for more
2004 and we lost him two days later during a training mission. Life has been Hell ever since. He was the first soldier from Mercedes to lose his life in Afghanistan. His name is SGT Daniel Lee Galvan, he left a wife and two young children, and a grieving family. He is buried in Lubbock, TX where his wife is from. So my life as of now is nothing but sheer Hell. That is my life as of now, before Aug 12, 2004 I was the happiest and luckiest Mother in the world, and now my life has been changed forever. My Son believed in what he was doing and we as his parents supported him as we did all our children and we always will.
