Neli's Story
Life
I am a retired Lecturer from San Jose State with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. I have had a pretty adventurous life, running marathons, flying, sailing, scuba diving, rock climbing and most of it after 40! I like taking risks. For several years I studied Polynesian dancing. It was very relaxing and only one form of dance I have studied. My parents didn't have money for dance classes, so I taught myself and when I finally took dance, I already had a sense of placement. I have one published collection of poetry, _After Altamira_, and three more manuscripts are in process plus my essays, short stories and blogs. See Amazon for my book. I have had poems published in Adirondak Review, phren-z, Konch Magazine and Appalachian Times. My scholarly review of Richard Berengarten's poem, __Averbury__, was published in 2012 in the UK. It would surprise people how much I love performing and how much dancing, singing and acting I've done on stage in addition to reading my own work at readings. ith Playhouse in the Park before I even left high school. I was in a band for a while of faculty members and that was great fun. I love doing anything creative, and anything on or in the water. I teach water fitness classes. Puttiing together music for my classes is one of my favorite things to do and people love my choices. I continue to explore, investigate, and try to make sense of the world through my writings. I have one lovely daughter and two amazing granddaughters. My daughter is a screenwriter with a graduate degree from USC and writes for television. She currently writes for __Lucifer__, but also worked on __I, Zombie__ and __Pretty Little Things__, to be released soon and currently in production. There are many practices I took up in my youth to which I am still dedicated. Yoga, meditation, hiking, music, reading, and I was always a writer. I can't express how grateful I have been to have live by the sea for so many years. On reflection, I don't think the person I was in high school was in any way, the full expression of who I really was. Just the tip of the iceberg. Always been an adventurer, and those who have actually known me know that. I chose a Buccaneer lunchbox! Those people are very few.
