Nelson's Story
I started out academically at St Teresa's School in South Buffalo, NY. Then I went on to South Park High School where I had a lot of wonderful friends, most of whom I haven't seen since we had our "36th reunion of the 36th graduating class" in 1967.
After SPHS I went to Canisius where I majored in girls, difficult in an all boy school (then) When the Jesuits figured out what I was up to they recommended a change of educational goal. I went into the Marine Corps where I found it easier to major in girls,
After stays at Parris Island, NAS Jacksonville (Airman Prep School) and NAS Lakehurst NJ (Aerology School), I ultimatelly was sent to USMC Air Station Miami (Opalocka and Masters Field) where the living was easy. I was in MABS 31 but was assigned to Station Aerology (weather).
While there I learned that with no money you could still get into the hotel cocktail parties free and that was where I met and ultimately married the love of my life, Dolly on 11/28/54 -- 57 years ago. When we got out of the Marine Corp in 1955 (I did, she was a camp follower wife) she made me go back to school and I got a Bs in Economics at Canisius College, then went to NJ to work for Prudential in Ordinary and Debit claims and then Sickness and Accident Claims.
I left there and went to Allstate where I was an adjuster and claim examiner.. While working for Allstate, I started Law S...Expand for more
chool at Seton Hall and became a trial attorney in 1967.
I left Allstate in 1968 and went to Arnone and Zager in Red Bank, NJ. I left them in 1970 and opened my own office - first with Ray Springberg (Murphy and Springberg) and then as a solo practiicioner in1973.
Eventually I added a fantastic lawyer, Jim Maloney, and we became Murphy and Maloney, with Irish Green letterhead and 10 wonderful employees.
I enjoyed my office and the comraderie with my associates and secretaries as well as the practice of my profession until my retirement in 2005,when Dolly and I went to Naples Florida to avoid the bitter winter weather.
Along the way we have had 5 children and 14 grandchildren and 5 great grand children. They are spread all over the north east - from New Jersey to Maine to New York city. I was the youngest of 6 and am the sole survivor in my family as is my wife the sole survivor of her family.
We had a joint medical crisis from Sept 2006 to June 2007 and are back to normal now. It is now 2012 and that is all in the past.
Now I'd love to hear from those 18 year olds that I last saw in Buffalo, ah so many years ago as well as the great people I came to know at Prudential and Allstate. I am not allowed to put an email address or web site here, but . I can be emailed at classmates and I will then give you my email address, since they won't let me do it here.
