Nelson's Story
Life
My wife and I marrird in 1967. Our son was born in 1968. We enjoyed camping, going to Virginia Beach and visiting with family and friends throughout the US. I always enjoyed watching my son playing football, baseball and soccer during his early years. At times it was a scheduling challenge, but thanks to my wife we were able to work through the athletic events, my shiftwork and ancillary job requirements. Our son grew into a fine husband and father. I have two fantastic grandsons who are a joy to be with.
College
Over a period of 30 years I was able to earn an Asso. Deg. in Police Science, a BA in Applied Behavioral Science, some grad. school in Administration of Justice. and graduated from the FBI's National Academy, Quantico, Va. Except for the three months at the NA, I was working full time. The FBINA was on "company time" and an excellant program. It took some time and a lot of support from my wife, Cathy. She also earned her Associates Degree with honors in Busness Mgt. during my educational quest.

How did they know? I did start out flipping burgers at McDonald's while attending college. After marriage, I worked for a couple of years as a clerk for Safeway Stores. At 21 yoa I did something I thought I would never do, I joined a police department - the Alexandria City Police Dept. After 20 mos. I joined the newly formed Prince William County PD (Manassas-Woodbridge-Qantico areas). During my 29 years as a Police Officer, I chased taillights and investigated lots of traffic accidents for 6 yrs., was a Investigator for 3 1/2 yrs., Patrol Supervisor (Sgt.) for 6 yrs., Accreditation Mgr. for 2 yrs., Internal Affiars Commander (Lt.) for 5 yrs., Deputy Administration Division Commander (Capt.) for 3 yrs., and, finally, the Eastern Commander (Garfield Substation) for 2 yrs. I retired effective 1/1/1999. During my career I had the opportunity to work with a lot of very fine people within the community and throughout local and state governments.
