Netha's Story
My Life
I was an elementary school teacher for 30 years. My first year was teaching 3rd gr. at Central in LaGrande. My next year was 3rd gr. in Reno. Then, I spent the next 28 yrs teaching in the Tigard/Tualatin district, 2nd,3rd, and 4th grades. Now, I am enjoying the good life as a retired educator. I'm married to Don Lester(also a 1962 alum) and we had one son, Dennis. He passed away on 6-29-09 from an extended illness. Our life just isn't the same anymore.
We miss him so!
We have a small horse ranch in Canby where we raise Cutting Horses. We have several broodmares that we breed each year, mostly to our own stallion,Pepto Taz. He stands in Weatherford, Texas. We enjoy the foaling and raising the babies. Hopefully, Don will start competing again soon. He wasn't able to show much when our son was so ill. But, we both enjoy going to the cutting horse events.

e born in Nov. 2009. They were a Godsend, keeping us very busy over the holidays, the first after the loss of our son. I also have a little mini-aussie, Mandy. She pretty much rules the house and is lots of fun. There are two cats, Katie Kat and Sammy, who live at our house, too. So, as you can see, pets are very important in our lives.
This July 30 - 31st, I attended the 1962 - 1966 LaGrande High Reunion. It was so much fun and a good time was had by all in attendance. It was very well organized and complete with a choir, pepband, a performance by the 'older'
cheerleaders, which I participated in. After the banquet at Quinn Colliseum, we all danced to the tunes of Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts until 11:00 pm. Needless to say, we were transcended back to the sixties for the weekend!
It was a bit difficult to return to reality afterwards, though. Oh well, in 2012, I'll be back in LaGrande once again for a high school reunion. This one will be the 50th for the class of 1962. My husband, Don, will join me for that one. Oh boy, I can't wait!
