Newton's Story
I started in music at Mrs. Gladys Williams house playing the keys. Then to the trumpet under Mr.Robert Scott and Sammy Coleman. Playing in the high school band was great. They taught me the way the big boys played. Working with Oscar Mack,James Duncan,Gloria Walker, Wayne Cochran,Oscar Toney and others at Macon Recording Studio (KING/STARDAY)as a trumpet player. WHAT A JOB! playing on records! Back to the real world and Morris Brown College for a year.This lead to the road and Augusta with Leroy LLoyd and the Dukes Band. Married In Boston and settled down,worked at Mass Inst of Tech. for 10 years and the Space Center for 5 years. Playing trumpet/trombone in the Boston area. I have a daughter name Charity born in 1973.Divorced and Moved back to Macon in 88 to be close to home and family.
I have been involed with the Georgia Legacy Foundation (501c)in Atlanta. We are a group of people that will show case Georgia Artist that are rooted in the Blues, Funk, Soul and Jazz. New Georgia Artist cd and video on the way.
