Nick's Story

Retired 2008 and enjoy the sleep and relaxed life. Now 2020. We enjoy the house in the country. Still improving things. Have all the toys to enjoy! sailboats, canoes, kayaks, fishing boat etc. but haven’t used them much in the last couple years. Too much planting and yard work! Now that’s about done. Just renewed the park pass and expect to use it a lot God has blessed our family and especially me! This young generation doesn’t understand what our country is based on. If only they would find the time to read history and their bible if they own one. Both daughters still have good jobs. One works for the government and one physician. Could not be more proud! Still kicking and enjoying the warm weather and sunshine! Moved the 24 ft sailboat to the shed in December 2015. Will work on the boat after I get caught up on the house and garden stuff or sell it and keep the west wright potter and canoes to be used in the nearby lake. Did reverse our lifestyle. Bought a home on some acreage in Northeast Texas in the Pines and slowed down our pace. Oldest daughter (hospitalist) still in Temple, TX. about 300 miles away. Works for Scott White Hospital Took the plunge for the permanent change. Moved all the junk collected over the years. Amazing how much collectable junk you accumulate. Good thing you can hire young strong guys to do the heavy lifting for you. Now it’s time to great rid of some old stuff on marketplace. Our place in the country is starting to shape up, We have a large garden and maybe grow some extra for others, Already planted the blueberries, figs, raspberries, blackberries, gogi berries, pomegranates, asparagus etc. and planted ma...Expand for more
ny different fruit trees peaches, plumbs, pears, apples, pecans and jujube etc. Bought a greenhouse but have not had time to put it together. This area of Texas reminds me of central Minnesota except you can grow a larger variety of plants for longer time periods and it only snows once or twice. Little snow and ice during winter maybe (not this winter) Just perfect! Lake is 7 miles and has a nice State Park. Other state parks not far away.. am listed in the local phone Directory here and hate the telemarketers. Really not thinking about livestock or other animals, however, the fence install is going piece meal. Had a dozer in to put in a driveway and some landscaping with a little work in the pasture, Replaced Air/ Heat pump. Weather has been great. Have the pasture cut for hay and grass is improved. Cleaned some of the fence lines and will trim more trees (never ends) . Lined up a neighbor to install a gate with opener. Need to build raised garden beds all over the place. Lots of room to grow stuff. Starting to slow down on the planting. Seems I'm working more now than when I had a real job. Summer can be hot! Still working around the house inside and out. Enjoy the internet via Sat.. Works good in the outback and with ring devices. Always something to keep me busy here. Yard is shaping up. Been ordering and planting many daylilies (did not know there are thousands of varieties). Yard is looking nice as young trees are growing. Seems there is always something to work on around this place, but I seem to have time now to enjoy the work. Still alive and moving along, Maybe a bit slower. I truly enjoy this area of North East Texas.
