Niki's Story
My Life---Updated on June 24, 2021
Where does one begin to tell their life story in 2000 words or less? The best place to start will be after graduation, which this year, was 40 years ago and we’re having our Reunion in September..
I married Randy Horrocks, a graduate from Timpview High, shortly after graduation on December 21, 1981. I worked a few jobs then became a nail tech./artist in 1989. This was a job that I truely enjoyed. We had our only child, Kemli Nicole, on August 29, 1983. She has been the joy of my life.
Sadly, but for the best, the marraige ended in divorce. I was able to find love again, when I met and later married Paul Guzman, who I have found to be my soulmate. We happily celebrated our 25th anniversary on May 4 of this year.. Paul has 3 children, Athena, Angie and Paul-Michael, who I have grown to love and proudly claim each of them as my very own.
In January 1997, we moved to Paul's hometown of Price, Utah, where he was a coal miner and I continued to do nails, as well as being a desk clerk at The National 9 Inn.
Our greatest gift was becoming Grandparents. Our 4 children have been blessed with 9, wonderful, sweet angels, who call us Papa & Nana.
Athena is married to Jeremy Robison, and is the General Manager of both National 9 Inn hotels in Price & Wellington, Utah and The Outlaw Cafe. Jeremy works for Carbon County. They just celebrated their 26th anniversary, have 1 daughter Tanisha, who is a CNA and as happy as can be at 21 and lives in Herriman, Utah. Their son Derick is 18, just graduated, loves to play baseball and will continue his education in Accounting and play ball, at Anoka-Ramsey in Minnesota.
Angie is a Financial Consultant in Rock Springs, Wyoming. 8 years ago, she married another coalminer, Tommy Palm. They have 1 daughter, Konner who is 23 and lives in SLC. She has 2 sons. Triston, a video game master, who works at Amazon and live...Expand for more

Kemli has 1 adorable son named Alejandro, or Alex as we call him who turned 11 on June 5th and his best friend is my Dad, his Grampy.
Paul-Michael, switched jobs during Covid last year, has a girlfriend, Brittany of 3 years and is a parent to 2, fun loving boys. Wyatt, will become a teenager in September and loves Pickleball. PJ / Paul Jaxson is 9 and both boys love playing video games with Dad & Brit. They live in Spanish Fork, Utah.
In the summer of 2000, there was a terrible fire/accident at the coalmine that Paul had been employed at for nearly 20 years. The mine was forced to close and Paul had to take work at a coalmine in Sommerset Colorado, about 80 miles SE of Grand Junction.
In Dec. 2001, we bought a home in Paonia, a small town about 10 miles from the coalmine in Sommerset. I had to quit working and was forced go on Social security disability 18 years ago, after 2 failed carpal tunnell surgeries that resulted in nerve damage and a chronic pain disability called RSD. I had 3 surgeries in the summer of 2015, attempting to install a Spinal Cord Stimulator, that has had issues. In Oct. 2015, I had a 4th surgery to remove the old one and install a new type. That surgery worked and has helped with the chronic pain I've been living with for the past 18 years.
It was been hard being away from our family, but we were able to visit every few months and hardly a day went by that we didn't talk to our kids and grandkids on the phone.
In 2013, Paul decided to retire. This was after a fire caused another coalmine he had been working at to shutdown. We sold our Paonia home and moved back to Price in 2015, after buying a home.
Well, that's it in a nutshell, & less than 2000 words!! I hope it was an interesting read, because it sure has been an interesting and love filled journey! Have a great life yourself!🐞
