Nikki's Story
After school I traveled to the Chicago area to spend the summer with my mom.I went to work at a department store Shoppers World. My Mother and my sister worked there also. I met a lot of new friends and really injoyed working.We worked befor the opening of the store so it was layed back and we got really close to all the workers so I decided to stay in the area. Being a big city girl of a small town in oklahoma and arkansas. I loved it. there was always something to do in that aera .I met my husband there.He just gotten out of the navy April 1 we married June 6, 1964. We would have married three weeks after we met but my mother lost my birth certificate. I had to send off for another one.We wanted a large family God gave us 4 sons. We were very greatful for the ones we had.We had a wonderful life. y fast and before we realized it the kids were in college ,navy, getting married, and going on missions. Gus and I were looking forward to him retiring off the Police Department after 25 years and even more counting the years he worked in Ill. just when things were going really well we bought a new home and Boom my Gus had a heart attact and passed away.That almost killed me I was an at home mom for over 31 years. To help keep my sanity I went back to school. Took this class and that class a couple of years later I Then took a Real Estate class and then sold Real Estate for a couple of years. I really didnt like it much. there was too much week end and holiday work. I wanted to be with family. My mom was ill and Guss mom needed my help so I did what I could .A friend told me about a job working with high school kids and I love it.I love that age group.Working with our youth has to be one of the best job in the world .
