Nikki's Story
Life
In addition to getting a new dog and house, I just graduated May 12th with a Masters in Education. I'm finishing my 1st year as a 5th grade teacher, adjusting to my 28 mile drive to work (used to be 10 when I lived in my apartment) and am getting back into the lawn moving groove. We have a 1/2 acre so there's a lot to tend to. That's all for now. :)
School
My favorite teacher was Herr Kallmeyer, although Mrs. Galvin (was that the name of the English teacher?) entertained me. I'm not sure if I'd do it all over again. I'm sure I'd do a few things differently. I think I'd need to confer with some people to jog the high school memories. Can't believe it's been 10 years!! Whew.
College
Went to Purdue for undergrad and roomed with Stephanie Weber freshman, junior and senior year #1. Roomed with Lori Bailey sophomore year. Met my husband there at our apartment complex because he gave me milk for my cereal when I went door to door, begging. :) Lots of all nighters. Lots of fun. :) Had season tickets to football and basketball so now I'm a big Purdue...Expand for more
fan. Go Boilers! Went to grad school at a teeny little college in the city of Chicago called North Park University. Glad to be done taking classes.
Workplace
Work life was interesting to say the least after college. Had a million jobs during college, continued the trend when I moved to Chicago. Was a driving instructor (best way to get your bearings in a new place - stressful though and you never get a bathroom break! Ugh) Then I was a director at a Kindercare Center. Too much work, so I got a cushy office job in the Home Depot training dept. but got bored sitting all day (my job wasn't terribly exciting - I was just an assitant) so I became an assistant teacher in 2004 and have been at the same school since. I've also tutored regularly on the side and might start teaching evening classes at my old grad school in the fall. In the summers, I did data entry for Lori Bailey and drank lots of Jamba Juice (really had the job to support my smoothie habit). Not planning to work this summer - yay! Might actually write a book for 1st year teachers...hmmm...
