Nina's Story
Life
So much has happened since DTS - 2 kids and 2 ex's later here I am. My daughter will soon be 27 and my son is 19. I live in a condo now and am soooo glad I don't have to shovel snow lol, especially with the way it looks outside today (Its February 6th 2008 today). My pic is from October 17/05 - I took it in Gravenhurst. I like to get away for drives as much as I can - some of the places I love are Niagara on the Lake and Cobourg (sp?), but any little town will do. I walk for a few hours everyday - I love the beaches boardwalk all the way from the East to the West. I've made alot of friends on a dating site, never thought it would be something for me - but you know what .... it's lots of fun. Contact me and say hi - would be great to hear from old friends:)
School
When I enrolled at DTS - it was one of the technical programs that I was seriously interested in. I was unfortunately misled by a guidance councillor at the time and told that I had to take the Home Economics courses and could specialize in grade 11. When I got to grade 11 (after learning how to read a recipe, wash and set elderly womens hair, and sew a half decent skirt) I tried to get into the printing course. Guess what - I was told that I didn't have the pre-requisites. My marks went way down and so did my attendance - I was one unhappy camper. I really liked the people I met at Tech and at least now I can cook lol, but it took another school to "grant" me the education I sought at Tech - by the way I had honors both years and graduated as the first female to complete the...Expand for more
course. Remember this was many years ago and girls were not taken too seriously when it came to academic and technical program choices - if I could do it again, I would have never "settled" and been much more vocal. But hey I had a good run in printing - and I still cook everyday, so no hard feelings :)
College
I went to George Brown but it wasn't until about 6 years after I graduated. I had gotten married, had a child, been separted - then decided to go back and get some more skills / or at least get a refresher. I took the Offset Lithography course, played ALOT of table tennis and met the man that would be my second husband there. It was a crazy time for me - being still young, a separted mom, going to school and working when I wasn't in school, whew so glad that's all over with. I graduated from GBC and worked in printing for the next 5 years.
Workplace
Even though I took the Home Economics course at DTS - I never worked in that industry. I ended up taking a printing course and graduating from a different highschool.
Working in the printing industry was riddled with time sensitive deadlines and way too much overtime - I took time off just to have babies. After my second child, I decided the overtime was too much and took an office/clerical job at an insurance company. I've been working in the insurance world in different positions and in different parts of Toronto for the past 20 years. I'm now working close to home - yes still in insurance and within the next couple of years I hope to be moving away from Toronto to live in Edmonton.
