Steve's Story
Graduated from West Virginia University in 1969, spent 2 years in the U.S. Army as an Officer, Started Seashore Stereo in Wildwood, NJ in 1972, carrying great brands for that era (Advent, Bose, JBL), got married in 1974, sold the store and moved to Florida in 1978.
Got my FL Real Estate License in 1979. When things slowed down in 1981, I bought an existing retail store, The Sewing Machine Store (can you believe it???), and just did real estate part time. Went back into real estate full time in 1983 after selling the store. Got my Broker's license about 1985, and started Best Buy Realty in 1987.
I always loved cars. My wife & I started doing corner flagging at SCCA racing events in 1989, and I started driving my cars on track in 1990. In 1992 I was one of seven founders of SAFE Motorsports. After doing most of the work for the non-profit, we went out on our own and started Performance Drivers' Club, Inc. about 1997. e rented race tracks in Florida: Sebring International Raceway; Homestead-Miami Speedway; and Moroso Motorsports Park (now Palm Beach International Raceway), where we had a school for beginners (with classroom instruction as well as 1-on-1 in car instructors), different track sessions for the more experienced drivers, Time Trial groups, and actual Road Racing (not ovals) with full safety equipment including roll cages, track timing, points accumulation and trophies for the podium winners.
We sold out the track business at the end of 2011, and are still working in real estate in order to keep a decent cash flow coming in. That is what is so great about real estate, you can make your own schedule, and don't have to punch a time clock. I am in Cape Coral Florida, a city of over 100 square miles, We are located on the west coast of Florida, about 120 miles south of Tampa, and 40 miles north of Naples.
I made it to the 40th reunion of the Class of 1964, and hope to make it to the 50th!!!! : ^ )
