Nona's Story
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a perfect-for-me idea. As it turns out, they were partially right. I taught English for 28 years, the last 19 of which were at Wilmington Friends School, where I was head of the English Dept., a college counselor, sponsor of the newspaper, and Humanities coordinator. I loved it! But the part I loved best was counseling students. So in 1999, mindful of the swift passage of time and my "carpe diem" philosophy, I quit my job, went back to school for a second Master's (at Bryn Mawr graduate School of Social Work and Social Research) and have now been a practicing psychotherapist ( licensed clinical social worker) for 7 years. uples, individual adults and families. I also do the grant writing for the agency I work for, so I get to use my love of writing as well. I feel so lucky to have had not one but two careers that make use of all my interests and strengths-- I am excited to go to work each day, and even though I can't say that I "make a difference"every day, I can say that I am presented every day with the opportunity to do so. I'm so grateful to my fabulous husband of 38 years, Joe, for his enthusiastic support and to my kids for urging me to "Go for it!"
I would love to hear from any and all members of the class of 1966-- I've kept in touch with Sharon Frank (Machrone) and Sue Robertson (Cline), but that's about it. Funny how living even one state away can take you out of the loop!
