Noreen's Story
Wow..how do you sum up a lifetime of experience? in a few paragraphs??? It sounds like an assignment right out of Mr Lipp's english class...LOL
Well, I suppose I could hit the highlights, so here goes...
I graduated from wagner college in 1985 with a bachelors degree in nursing. From there, went (crazy) to nc into the mountains....that was quite a history lesson...kind of like on the job training..(anyone see deliverance???LOL)
Did (expensive) intensive care for awhile and found myself working in all aspects of cancer nursing (oncology). That was the gift for exhile in the mountains i guess..I learned so much about life and living from my patients.
I decided I needed more education in order to do more for those patients, so I went across the state and enrolled in Duke University grad school(twice!)
So, with a masters degree in oncology and a post masters in adult health primary care as nurse practitioner, I felt more prepared to make a difference.
Coming back to new york after being in nc for 16...Expand for more
yrs was a bit of a good shocker.
I received a fellowship training position and it was an offer I could not refuse! So doing full time work and full time fellowship for a year, was worth it. I look now and am not sure how I managed that one..LOL
Now, what do I do with all of this???
(Besides lots of paper hanging on the wall in frames..) Well, I have done palliative care(pain and symptom management) and end of life care, for awhile now. I am weaving that into oncology and work for THE #1 major academic healthcare institution in manhattan.
What i realize is that we are usually where we need to be, and like it or not..we are all connected.
I have two sons, of whom I am very proud. Sean has bachelors degree in physical education and coaching, and Patrick has joined the navy.
I am very blessed and am delighted to see my fellow IT classmates doing well and enjoying what life has to offer..some of it bitter and some of it sweet, but always ultimately what is needed to help sculpt us into who we are.
