Noreen's Story

Life I've moved to a remote area in Colorado. My companion, ( Bruce ) & I built a log home ( my life long dream! ) on 35 wooded acres. We have now lived here for 20 years! We have a view of the West Elks & Crested Butte mountains. Surrounded by Ponderosa pines, Aspens, & Douglas Firs - we are living "OFF THE GRID" using solar, well, & propane. Installed a Yagee antennae & cell phones work with full bars! Satellite brings us T.V. & computer. We heat with a wood fireplace. Deer, fox, elk, coyotes, moose, elk, mountain lions, & bears are in our backyard! This year, street signs were put up for emergency purposes; we get our mail at a P.O. box near town which is 30 minutes away. Here ( unlike the last place we had lived ) , our home association plows the roads, so we can drive to our home in winter. Before ( for 7 1/2 yrs.), we snowmobiled to our homes in the winter & we were over 1 hour from any town or medical help. Cruces, New Mexico. We had also hosted in 2012 at Grand Portage, the site of the Northwest Fur Trading Company where we dressed in vintage clothes & learned the history of that time relating it to visitors. We have since trailer camped in Arizona & New Mexico for part of the winter. My wildflower photo cards have been sold at the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival. I have had great success planting a garden at 9,500' & built a water feature with two small waterfalls surrounded by perennial flowers. Somehow I have managed to keep the deer out by fencing it! I have 4 children: Jennifer ( writer & artist & owner of West L.A. Dreads ) has an 14 year old son, Sky Island & a 10 year old daughter, Sienna Rose & lives in Los Angeles, California. My son Darren ( Boulder, Colorado) has a 17 year old son, Banyan. Susannah ( Golden, Colorado ) is an Art Therapist with clients & is married to Bradley Backer & have a 9 year old son, Benjamin, & Lauren ( Boulder, Colorado .) is a massage therapist. Love to hear from old friends!

This is funny! Empty dog food bag was in kitchen and McKenzie decided it was a good place for a nap!
Pond and two waterfalls. Left one is large, right one small! Two shades of blue Columbine returned near lamp post, poppies & ground cover filled in empty spots! No pond leaks this year!

Planters have filled in & Bleeding Heart plant has grown to cover the electric outlet! Put few drops of bluing in pond water which seems to stop algae growth!
Not many chipmunks to eat the flowers this year. Most likely due to the LARGE ravens which come to the bird feeder!
Moved the table with the little grill and chairs from pond area to the deck this year. Seems to fill up the space more!
