Norm's Story
Life
I'm now a Medicare recipient, collect a pension and social security, own my own home in the burbs of Washington DC, still have my first wife of 43 years, a small dog that travels easily, two kids, 4 grandkids and have pretty decent health.
I left Brooklyn in 1957 (parents moved me before graduation from Lafayette, but I will always be a Frenchie in my heart). I've got a graduate degree in marine geophysics, have been to 5 oceans, 7 continents and 51 countries. The job has been good and FUN! In retirement, I still consult when somebody needs my expertise. In order to get around the rules (typically a Brooklyn trait), I can be contacted at nzcherkis, then the funny at sign over the numeral two on the keyboard, followed by the cowboy's holler when on a bucking bronc) then a dot, followed by the c-m. e devious than that.
Back before the present gang began a reunion, I organized one for the 9SP class at Bensonhurst JHS, class of '55. Found 37 of the 38 in the class, which is a pretty good score. One passed before the first get-together in 1995, and a second one succumbed just after the second go-round in Y2K. The third one was on the west coast in '05. Looking forward to the full class reunion next year, back in God's country, where I need to go periodically for decent food and a taste of New York tap water.
The olde neighbourhood has definitely changed. All the signs are in Russian and Chinese. I can read Russian, so it's not too bad. PECTOPAH = RESTORAN = restaurant. But finding a bagel on Bath Avenue was a chore! Ivan and Chang don't know from bagels.
My tirade is complete. Drop me a line and lets chat.
