Norma's Story
I married Miguel Mery in 1976 and have a great marriage. We have a 36 year old son who married a wonderful woman and we have a 4 year old grandson and a two month granddaughter. They live in Pocatello Idaho.
I have been working in the food industry since graduating from Texas A&M. I joined Del Monte Foods in January of 1975 working at the processing plant in Crystal City until they moved us to California in 1987. During this time we lived in Carrizo Springs. We lived and worked in California for 8 years. Del Monte again asked us to move to Mexico. We worked and lived there for 10 years. It was in Mexico where Amy's Kitchen found us in 2007.
Amy's Kitchen Inc. is a family owned business which makes all kinds of food, everything from frozen pizzas, entrees, candies, to soup. These products are organic, vegetarian, and natural and made in 3 processing plants, one in California, one in Pocatello, and one in Oregon. Recently the company purchased land in the state of New York and plans to build another plant there within the next 24 months.

2011 the owner asked me to take on the job I have now. We did not want to move anymore but he knew we owned a home in Eagle Pass and our goal was to come back one day. He used this as a negotiating tool allowing us to move back to Eagle Pass while continuing to work for the company in this new role. It took almost a year to find my replacement but we finally made it back. We left Eagle Pass in 1971 and were finally able to return and call it home in January 2012, 40 years later.
One of my responsibilities in this new role is to develop suppliers for organic ingredients from the southern hemisphere. The reason for having to find additional suppliers is because our company growth has been in double digits for several years and we have outgrown our US supply chain. I enjoy working with growers and processors to qualify them as our suppliers. In addition, I also have the responsibility for all contract manufacturing and for process improvement projects in the plants. These responsibilities keep me traveling about 70% of the time but it is still great being able to see my family and friends while here.
