Norman's Story

Since graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951, life has been a series of challenges and fulfillment. The greatest thing that happened to me was to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1952. Turning my life over to our Savior and submitting to His will has been a marvelous and joyful experience. God has given me a personal witness from the Holy Ghost that Joseph Smith was indeed a mighty prophet, prepared and called to restore the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in these latter days. The nature of "Mormonism" is such that it is either the greatest truth that has come forth in 2,000 years, or it is the biggest fraud and falsehood--there is no middle ground. I am a witness that it is true and comes from God and will bless the life of any person who will read the Book of Mormon--ancient America's witness of Christ--and then ask God if it is true. My witness of the truthfulness of the Holy Bible has grown tremendously because the Book of Mormon is another witness of its truthfulness. In 1954, I moved to Utah to attend Brigham Young University and studied to become a teacher in the public school system. I taught high school age students who were in a lockup facility. I learned early the extreme importance of being honest and righteous parents, because the vast majority of my students came from delinquent homes. In 1965, I met a wonderful young woman who later became my wife, not just for this life but for all eternity--providing we keep the covenants we have made before God in His Holy House. Four special children blessed our home--twin boys and two girls. Truly children are an "heritage unto the Lord." In 1999, I retired from teaching after nearly 40 years. My w...Expand for more
ife, Joyce, and I were called to serve a Church mission to Nigeria in 2000 for 18 months--a very choice experience with the Nigerian people. We later returned in 2005 to Nigeria and served in the Aba Nigeria Temple for 18 months, helping the Nigerian saints receive special temple blessings, centered around families becoming "forever families." Life has been wonderful and very fulfilling! Truly, when one puts God first in his life, everything else falls into its rightful place. My dear wife and I are presently serving a Church Service Mission here in Ogden, Utah, teaching English to the Spanish speaking people--both members and nonmembers. We have met some great people who are striving to become more integrated into this great country of America. I could wish nothing greater for my fellow classmates of WWHS than to encourage you to investigate and check out the claims and teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I can promise you that you will gain a much greater understanding of who you are, why you are here on the earth, and where you are going when you leave this earth; and that your life will be much happier and fulfilling. When we center our lives around the teachings and example of our Lord and Savior, nothing can ever go permanently wrong. I know this to be true. On the other hand, if we don't do this, nothing can ever go permanently right. If I can be of any help to my dear classmates, I welcome any comments or questions. Remember, you are free to choose what you want to believe. God does not coerce any of us to accept the truth. Our Savior is the only One who can make us free and fully happy! As the Spanish say, ¡Qué le vaya bien! [May everthing go well!]
