I grew up picking fruit in CA, OR, WA, and MT. For me it was a great life though we moved around a lot, one year I changed schools 7 times. That was probably the only bad part of that life. I met and made friends with some of the best people picking fruit. You would be surprised at how many kids grew up like I did. Fruit pickers kids grew up with a great work ethic. Other kids went to school and just laid around the house or went out and got into trouble on weekends because they didn't have anything else to do. he cherries, apricots, plums, prunes, pears and apples. We would get up really early in the morning and would get to the orchards before daylight, then by the time that it got light enough to see, we were working. Life was never boring. Sometimes I miss that life. It was a good life. There are times I wonder how my life would be different if I had grown up like those other kids that did not pick fruit. Some people looked down on us because we did not have homes like they did, that we did not have the "things" they did, and that we did not live like they did. But it is they who do not know what they missed. I am proud that I grew up picking fruit. I am proud of the things my parents taught me. I am proud that I had the opportunity to know those that I grew up with and even today continue to be friends with. My life has changed now, I love serving the Lord in the ministry, working with my wife at my side, having a part in seeing lives changed for the kingdom of God. I am thankful for the wonderful children that God has given to Diane and I. I am thankful for the churches that God has allowed me to pastor and the great people in those churches. God has been good to me through out my life. Thank you Lord for my heritage as a fruit picker's kid growing up and the heritage you have given me as one of your servants. God is good.".
