Norman's Story

Life I started working in the Restaurant Mgt. Field right after H.S. I was Married for 23 years, but now Divorced. My Ex inherited an enormous sum of money, and our Personal Relationship was already on the rocks, so when She became Greedy about "Her Money", you might say I finally had enough. She even tried to file for Bankruptcy so She wouldn't have to pay her bills, or mine as well...what a joke!!! The Judge laughed at Her, and She still had to pay Her Lawyer, the Court, and the Bills. I now have a "New Family". My Marriage never saw any Kids of my own, but now I have 3. They are 9, 11, & 17. I have been living in Altoona, PA now, since September, 2003. Between 1999 and 2004, I was Self-Employed and delivered Campers, Boats, Trailers, Carnival Equipment, etc. around the Country. I drove over 600,000 miles and delivered well over 500 trailers. I have been in all 48 States, several times, but the price of fuel made me consider other options in making a living once again...Thank You Mr. George W. Bush!!! I now work for Coca-Cola Enterprises as a Merchandiser. I Service Local Grocery and Department Stores as well as neighboring Towns. It's not the easiest work but it does pay the bills. Whenever you go somewhere and see a large display of Coca-Cola Products...think of me. I build and tear down those displays, as well as keeping the shelves stocked. I beat the odds and survived a Major Medical Disaster. I had been suffering from severe back pain for nearly 8 years. The Doctors I had been seeing were unable to discover what was causing the Pain. The only thing they could do was to keep me doped up all the time. I was taking 23 pills a day to control the pain, but finally this wasn't working either. In December 1996, after being in the Hospital for over 3 weeks, 2 days before Christmas, I awoke in very severe pain, and bled dry after a Main Artery Aneurism had finally burst in my stomach. I actually died, but was brought back to life after being dead for nearly 7 minutes. They performed emergency surgery on me, but to keep me alive, they ...Expand for more
had to also do CPR on me for several hours. I ended up in a Coma, and they figured I would end up being a "Vegetable", if I did wake up again. They really only gave me less than a 3% chance of survival, but I fooled everyone...including myself. They had even flown me to another Hospital, because if I was going to die, they were preparing to harvest my organs. I've been in debt up to my eyebrows since that happened, but I am thankful for still being alive. I know my "New Family" is thankful, and of course...the people I owe money to. I've gotten a pretty good handle on this debt now, and soon hope to be rid of this burden. After going through this ordeal, it's really hard to believe, but I'm in better shape now then I have ever been my entire life. Most of you that remember me from H.S. probably would not recognize me now. I weigh much less than I did when I Graduated... by about 40 to 45 lbs. How many of you out there can say that? Of course, I was overweight back then, and a lot of you made me well aware of that. In 1988, I finally peaked out at nearly 400 lbs, but I was finally fed up, and put myself on my own diet that I developed, and the weight disappeared. I lost about 175 lbs before my ordeal in 1996, but I found out that my weight problem stemmed from a rare eating disorder that dated back as far as my Teen years. Well, the Doctors also corrected this problem during one of the 5 operations I had between December 1996, and September 1997, and now I'm pretty much a "Normal Sized" person. I will always have the scar to remind me of this ordeal, and for the longest time, I was even afraid to be seen without a shirt on. This has changed though, because now, I'm proud of what I have accomplished in finally getting a handle on my weight, and amazed at the amount of Pain I was able to endure for so many years. When people ask about the scar, I usually end up making a new friend when I tell them my story. Well, with my "New Family" and my current Job, I am a rather busy person, but feel free to contact me...even if it's just to say Hi!!!
