Ofelia's Story
I was raised in the Ramona Gardens Projects. We lived there from 1966 to 1982. My childhood was full of fun and excitement. I have 8 sisters and no brothers. (thank god!) I went to murchison Elementary school. I remember my favorite teacher, Miss Holguin who later married and became Mrs. Ramos. She was the sweetest and nicest teacher I have ever met. She really made a difference in my life. I went to Belvedere Jr. High. That is where I had the most fun! From there I went to Lincoln High school. Go Tigers!! High school was ok. The girls I hung out with left with their boyfriends and made a family so I ended up by myself but that's exactly how I liked it. I didn't like being fake and acted like I was popular. That just wasn't my thing. I had 8 sisters to hang out with and boy was it fun! We went everywhere together and met many people and just had a blast! ll innocent stuff but things were different back then and parents were very strict. I was a good girl growing up. There isn't anything anyone can hold against me or say bad about me because I was the perfect child, daughter, friend and sister. Oh and perfect girlfriend to my 2 boyfriends I had. It was all about respect. I didn't have many boyfriends. I chose to have friends because boyfriends were too much of a trouble. They were too much drama. Actually I'm almost perfect (no one is perfect, only god) I'm beautiful and very caring and people love me for being genuine. I met my husband when I was 21. We married when I was 23. Boy was that the biggest mistake ever.We married for the wrong reasons. I have four girls and happy to say that it's just me and my girls now. They all go to college except for the youngest one. She is still in high school. I am very proud of my girls. I am happy now and intend to continue being happy always.
