A: I didn't. I'm originally from Dallas. Q: What made you realize that music was your path? A: I can't remember when I didn't want to play music. I remember my first show was on a picnic table at Lakewood Methodist Church when I was 5. I sang. The crowd applauded, I was hooked! Q: How would you describe the music that you typically create? A: I'm a story teller, a poet and a musician. I've been through a lot in my life both good and bad so sometimes my songs are fun and sometimes..I sing the blues. I write about situations and things that we all go through on this planet we share. My songs are from the heart, sometimes from the head and sometimes the funny bone. I hope they encourage people, make them think, let them know that they are not alone. They are who I am. My lady has said I'm a big bad teddy bear! I'm as tough as I need to be but been known to shed a tear at the end of a good movie too Q: Who are your biggest musical influences? A: There are so many. I love any music that is performed well and tells a good story, but of course, being a piano and guitar player,(mainly piano) I'd have to say Ray Charles, James Taylor, Mose Allison, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Duke Ellington, and of course Lennon and McCartney. Oh! Let's not forget Dyl...Expand for more
an! I've have been influenced by thousands of great songwriters, bands and musicians. Q: What makes your music unique? A: I've worked with just about every genre of music you can imagine. I have some unique progressions. I mean, we all only have so many notes and chords to work with, don't we? My uniqueness is in my lyrics and how the music helps tell the story. Q: Has there been one particular moment in your musical career that you're most proud of? A: In my early days I opened for Canned Heat, Z.Z Top, Blood Sweat and Tears and others. I played in front of 20,000 + people at a festival in Dallas. I love hearing myself on the radio; well most of the time. I pretty proud of that. I recorded with Andrew "Jr Boy" Jones, Randy McAllister and Chuck Rainey and I was the on;y musician to play on two songs on the first "Texas Blues" CD That was produced by KNON Radio in Dallas. I've been in bands and on stage most of my life. My proudest moment was in 2001 when my youngest son, Zachary crawled up on stage and fell asleep under my piano. Right in the middle of the show! After the song was over you could hear about 300 people all going...Ahhhh, How Cute! I guess it took...He's an awesome trumpet player now and he's only 16 years old. Q: What's next for you? A: In the Studio working with my band, Texas Alley Cats on our debut CD. I'm excited about it! I'm really lucky to have the musicians I have with me. They really deserve a break so I hope to be selling songs through Taxi, hopefully a record deal through them. Don O at KNON Radio and Joanna Iz who publishes Southwest Blues Magazine in Dallas have done so much for the blues and blues musicians. I really hope they like us. We're more blues and Boogie based but I write funk and ballads too. I'm just ready to get the band out there. The fans are the real test.".
