Oscar's Story
OK .. Somebody (Art) out there asked me for my "story". Short version follows ..
I developed a seriously bad case of "small-town-itis" after graduating from HHS. Even after heading off to Rutgers I couldn't focus on anything except a gnawing need to travel. I left Rutgers after 1 1/2 semesters and joined the US Navy. Did a lot of traveling including a 1 year tour of shore duty in Vietnam. I met my future wife through a wrong phone number(Please note, neither one of us was making a phone call). We got engaged 1 month before I left for Vietnam and we got married 6 months after I got home. We raised two wonderful daughters (Melissa and Erica) through a series of employment relocations through Southern California and eventually settling in the Bay Area-Northern California - I managed to get seriously addicted to skiing about 30 years ago and still love the sport. I try get in about 20 to 30 days each season. Living w/in a 3 hour drive to Lake Tahoe has helped keep that addiction alive and well.
The electronics training I received
while in the Navy prepared me for a path of employment and additonal education that eventually led ...Expand for more
me to my my Associates Degree in Computer Sciences and Graphic Arts and my final employer, SONY.
After 16 years with SONY, I, along with hundreds of other employees , was offered an "early retirement" package. That was in July 2001. We were given 45 days to make a decision; I took 42 and accepted the package. No regrets...
Unfortunately, the joy of an early retirement was clouded by the poor health that my wife suffered due to the complications of diabetes. She passed away from that dreaded disease July 23,2008. We were married for just over 40 years.
I am currently returning to a somewhat "normal" existence after allowing myself to be sort of a recluse for the last year - actually even started dating after posting a profile on Match.com
Currently I am in the process of finalizing a "final" relocation to Colorado to be nearer to my older daughter and my first grandchild(due to be born Febrauary 2010).
I hope this summary satisfies the "thirst" for those who wanted to know more about what twists and turns my life had taken since we were last in contact during High School. Sometimes it seems like yesterday, doesn't it?
