Pam's Story

Life I live in San Diego, CA and have since 1980. It's a wonderful place and I feel fortunate to live here. I've been married 20 years and have a daughter, 17 and a son, 13. After 9 years of commuting, for the past 7 years I have lived very close to my work which has enhanced the quality of my life greatly! By the way, that is the one thing about SD that I don't like--the traffic! I have returned to Decatur less and less over the years as my sisters and mom live in CA and I have very little family left there. Nevertheless, I will always have fond memories of growing up in Decatur and meeting so many great people that I remain friends with to this day. College I went to college right after high school in Carbondale at SIU. I did my final semester at SIU by completing an internship in Santa Barbara, Ca. After that I returned to Decatur for about a year before moving to San Diego where I have been ever since. rk after that! I also met my husband in graduate school and I am verythankful for that as well! I find it interesting how one choice in life affects another! As I said before, I feel fortunate to live in San Diego and am very happy I moved here many years ago. That being said, I appreciate the opportunity I had growing up in Decatur with extended family and friends. Workplace I work in the senior housing and healthcare industry, for a non-profit corporation in San Diego, CA. We have two facilities that we own, and manage a third. I have worked for this organization for the past 15 years, and was promoted to the position of CEO about 4 years ago. I find it extremely rewarding to work with a group of dedicated and hard working individuals who care a great deal about the quality of life provided to the seniors in our care. I always say that growing old is not an option. And considering all the statistics which indicate people are living longer, it's important to me that we continue to encourage young people to go into this field! If we don't, who will be there to care for us?
