Pam's Story

Sometimes I wish we could turn back the clock to our high school days, when life was so very simple. The days when the only things we worried about were what to wear to West View Danceland on Saturday night and finding a ride home afterward. Those days are gone, but it's fun to reminisce about them. After graduating from Perry, I went on to earn my B.S. in elementary education from Duquesne University. I wish I could say that I've achieved great things, like finding a cure for cancer or AIDS, but I can't. But I'm so very proud of our many classmates that have gone on to realize great success! My two great accomplishments were my 28-year marriage to the love of my life, my best friend, and my "rock" Jack, and our wonderful son John. My happy marriage ended six years ago when my husband died of cancer; he was diagnosed in June and passed away in October. I wish I could say that I'm moving on, but sometimes I don't feel as though I am. Every time I hear Josh Groban's song "To Where You Are", I tear up. One blessing in my life is my 26-year old son John. John attended the University of Pittsburgh as a Chancellor's Scholar, a full academic s...Expand for more
cholarship that also included room and board. He graduated summa cum laude in 2004 and was a finalist for a Truman Scholarship. John currently lives in Virginia, where he works as a writer for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He previously spent three years working on Capitol Hill for Senator Rick Santorum and Congressman Jeb Hensarling. I often wonder how a city Democrat raised a Regan Republican ! In the fall, John will begin working on his MBA at Georgetown University. I guess you can tell I'm very proud of my son =) My life is pretty busy now helping care for my father. My Dad is 90 and has some problems with his memory. I'm just glad that he lives nearby so I can be there for him. My mother passed away three weeks before my husband in 2002. Needless to say that was not a good year. I'm very lucky to have some wonderful friends; that I regularly see and talk to. I think there is something very special about old friendships. I've put on weight since high school, my bleached blonde hair has turned gray, and I can't see a thing without my glasses...but that's life!! I'd like to offer a big hello and best wishes to all of my classmates.
