Pam's Story
Life
After spending the first 32 years of life as a directionless, unhappy, and increasingly despondent person,my life began again in 1982. I am now very happily married to Dick who is hilarious and of Polish descent, a suma cum laude graduate of Spalding University and I am a crazy CAT lady. Dick and I share 6 wonderful grandchildren, ages 8(Taylor Lynn), 11(Evan), 11(Jared), 13(Shelby Lynn), 18 (Madi) and 20(Rachel). I received a kidney/pancreas transplant in 2000,after 48 years of diabetes, and am now insulin/diabetes free. About college: while working on my final 6 hours toward my MSW at U of L's Kent School, I had to drop out due to illness and deteriorating sight. Today my life is happy. I am, however, continuing to learn and grow. I am a full-fledged tree-hugger and active in civics (hear that Ms. Scheiter?), probably because I love our grandchildren so much. School
I went to Hawthorne Elementary from 1956 to 1961. After Hawthorne I attended Seneca High from 1961 to 1962. I enjoyed the orchestra with Harold Wick,enjoyed many friendships and was devastated when we moved away.I think of Seneca very fondly. After Seneca, I attended 8th - 12th grade at Durrett High, where I graduated in 1967.I was an active member of the band and orchestra and spent little or no time on learning anything in my classes.It wasn't until I started classes at JCC in 1992, that my brain actually became engaged, and I discovered that I loved to learn and was a pretty good student. After JCC, I went to Spalding University on a 2 + 2 scholarship and earned my BSW graduating Suma cum laude.After Spalding, I attended Kent School at U of L until my health and eyesight began deteriorating. I still need 6 hours to earn my MSW. Maybe someday...
