Pamela's Story
Life
After spending 27 years employed with the State of Nevada, I purchased my last three years of service, and retired at the age of 45.....it's nice to have a monthly income and not having to rely on anyone but myself. I am currently in the State of Virginia, but really want to get back to Las Vegas, as it will always be my home. Besides, there are way too many bugs that live here too, and I hate bugs... Well now I'm back in Las Vegas, and I missed the reunion....but have been reunited with my family and that's what counts....looks like I checked this web sight a day late, as I never knew about the reunion....last time I looked, there wasn't anything posted.......it would have been fun to see how old all of the rest of you look.......ha ha ha........just kidding.......
School
Most of my high school memories weren't school related, as I was engaged at the age of 15, and my main objective at the time wasn't being at school.......I preferred ditching school with my best friend "Kathy" as we were unseperable through junior high and high school. We'd go eat breakfast or go to the mall and shop....We both got suspended from school when got caught by Ms. Marra (French class) for leaving school instead of going to the assembly. My dad had to get me back into school and the dean of girls was so mean. I can remember her leaning back in her chair with her feet up on the desk, as she showed my dad all the red x's on my attendance card. I graduated early in my senior year and graduated with honors which was amazing to me today, as I never went to school......Thank goodness I attended school before they made attenda...Expand for more
nce a requirement of graduating.....All I had to do was show up for the tests and the finals......
Workplace
I started work for the State of Nevada Welfare Division when I was 18 years old. I began my employment there as a file clerk. I spent one year in the clerical field, and was promoted to an eligibility worker......I loved my job, and learned how to listen, as everyone had a story to tell, and never was the story the same twice.....for a change I thought I wanted, I went into supervision; no amount of money could have prepared me for babysitting a bunch of grown adults, not to mention that public service employees often don't have the best work ethic, and it was difficult for me to expect people to have the same morals and work ethic as I did. My last three years were spent in the Quality Control area, reviewing benefits, for the Fed's. I discovered that upper management really didn't care about contributing factors for the error rate, so I decided to buy my last three years, and leave. I think I was just tired of seeing it go full circle time and time again, serving on the same committees committed to re-writing policy, depending on who the new governor appointed as Administrator.....I'm really glad to be gone, but very thankful for the State of Nevada's Retirement Plan, as they will continue to pay me until I leave this life.......
Military
I never served in the military, guess I'm old fashioned, but never thought a woman's place was in the battlefield.......but I thank all the women and men who have given their service for our country....as they deserve more than I could ever do for them....
