Pamela's Story

Life Life...what a wonderful adventure. Let's see...what have I done since graduating HS in 1982. hmm... As for me, one week after graduating HS I went overseas to Europe to rejoin my mother who had recently remarried a Warrant Officer in Uncle Sam's Army. Needless to say, after growing up in the small town of Flaherty, I really didn't have a lot of life's tools that was needed for this adventure...so I gathered them along the way...lol... We spent 3 years overseas and toured a lot of the other countries while there. We went to France, Belguim, Spain, Holland, Liechtenstein and a few others. I saw the MonaLisa, the Eifel Tower, the Leaning Tower of Piza, Christopher Columbus' ships and many other things to include several of history's castles. I also parasailed in Spain. Cool beans huh! Once, while at a club in Germany, I had had on a pair of shoes that I bought in Paris and I had them signed by Freddy Fender...imagine that... After leaving Europe in 85, my step-father retired after serving 30 years in Florida and I followed. We were in Clearwater for awhile. It wasn't until I was 23 that I finally left the nest. From there I went to CA for awhile and then back to KY where I met my husband who was a soldier from Ft Knox. I married when I was 24. Together we have 3 children, two girls/one boy. Now 18, 16 and 10. My oldest graduates HS this May with a 4.0...proud mama. My husband got out of the military 98 years) after spending time over at the gulf war back in 92. It was then my turn to go in. I joined Uncle Sam's Army Dec of 93. Of all places to be stationed, they sent me to Hawaii. (God is good) In Hawaii I spent a total of 10 consecutive years there. 3 years military and 7 years civilian. It was at this time I grew up in the Lord with the locals on the Leeward side of the island. It was there I found my personal relationship with Jesus. For many years I sang in the Choir and was a part of the Praise & Worship team. I was also very active in a lot of other areas of ministry with my church. Our choir even made a CD. were also very active within the community and many other places on the island. From the prisons to many of the 5 star hotels, our choir sang. I left Hawaii in April of 2004. As I look back, I really don't know why I left. Hawaii is the first place I ever felt like I really belonged. The locals seemed to adopt me and my children. Hawaii was very good to us. In June of 2003 my husband passed away at the age of 44. It was very sad and very unexpected. This was a time we call joyful/sadness. We celebrate because he made it home to heaven to be with our heavenly Father, as that is the ultimate goal in life, where there there is no pain, no sorrow or sadness and surely he is walking the streets of gold; yet we grieve with much sorrow because it hurts our hearts and we miss him so. After leaving Hawaii I did come back into KY for two years and once again became a Flaherty girl. My children even had a chance to go to school where I once did. The world is surely a small place. I am now in Florida once again living near my mother and step-father. We have been here since July of 2006. However, I will be leaving once again this May to return home to the islands as I believe that this is where God is once again leading us. I must say...through all the many adventures my steps have taken me...that finding Jesus is the greatest of all. He is my rock. Without Him I don't know how I would have made it through. I know that He has carried me many times. God is good all the time. I am so thankful we serve a Mighty God...I am so thankful for His grace and His mercy. We just need to remember that no matter how the storms may rage in this game that we call life...if we remember to look past the storm and at Him, we will make it through. For surely He is a good God and He has promised to see us through. I believe this with all of me. Many blessings to all of you Pam 07/24/17 - (Small Update) Currently residing and intending to retire in Hawaii on the island of Maui. I am now an accountant by trade and always always, a child of God.
