Pamela's Story

In school I guess I was classified as a loner or even a nerd.At least to the "in" crowd. I did not speak to or not speak to someone based on their social standings in the food chain so to speak. High school sucked! Everybody was to busy trying to get everyone one else to buy into the facade that they were so much better then the majority.Even then I did not get into all the propaganda bull crap. I can say the people that mattered to me in high school i still speak to today twenty years later. But I learned many a valuble lessons from high school.Because today whether it be in the work place or in a social group everyplace has it cliques. I am not different today then i was twenty years ago. Okay so that isn't entirely true. My heart is no different. I still love people for who they are, not what they are. i don't care if the have money or panhandle on some corner just to get by.The biggest lesson high school taught me was not to judge a book by its cover.Like an old saying I heard once no matter how much you polish a turd, its still a turd! I did my best not to step on any toes while I was in school if I did and it hurt I'm sorry. I did my best to keep my head down, do my time and get out. As a child I knew that small towns with small minds was no place for me. Three days after graduation i h...Expand for more
oped on a plane and left. Since 1989, I have never been back there for longer than a couple months here and a couple months there. I did what was expected of me by at least my families standards i got married(to Bill Holstein)and started a family of my own. together we have two beautiful children who are 17 and 15 now. But as much as i loved him something always felt wrong. In 1996 i came out, i took our children and once again left to begin a new journey in life. No, it was not an easy life in the beginning my family would not speak to and I hurt my best friend,(Bill)very much.It was a stuggle in my life for quite a while. But after a couple years and some deep soul searching it became easier. my choice was to except the fact or end my life. And that was not an option. But being gay twenty years ago wasn't an option either.i would have never survived coming out then. Since then i have been in a relationship for 10 1/2 years. Together with my children we stand tall and strong like any other family. My children are both hetrosexual which i am glad for. in closing i will say this.....being gay is not a choice. why would someone choose to run the risk of possibly losing their life, their children, their job or their family. Life is to short to pass judgement, embrasse all it and all it diversities.
