Pam's Story

Update: This lovely story has come to an end. Getting a divorce. I attended MHS my Soph & Sr year & Stonewall Jackson High School my Jr. year. I loved SJHS! it was so different from MHS. The building was only a couple years old (not like MHS that has to be 550 yrs.old), had great teachers and was full of bright, interesting, fun people who made u feel welcome from the beginning. I made so many great friends there that I will never forget.Got married to Steve Daugherty, had a daughter, went 2 work at WVU, moved 2 Fairmont, started working 4 a surface mining company working with mine leases, started taking classes at FSU & got divorced after 7 years. Moved back 2 Morgantown & ran into a lot of old friends, plus made some new ones. Started working at Consol in the Safety Dept., took classes at night, bought a house, went to WVU football& basketball games, enjoyed the lake, did volunteer work. I never remember when growing up thinking about having children or getting married. But,I thank God for giving me my wonderful daughter, Kelley. While she was growing up she kept me focused.(if you know me well u know that's a difficult thing 2 do) I dated some, but never got "really" serious. Looking back I think because I didn't want anyone helping raise my daughter. (In fact, I got divorced when she was 6 & finally got serious when she was 21 when I met my husband) I'm so proud of her. She is a nurse & worked in the OR in labor & delivery at WVU. She now works for a physician in private practice. Every February she goes for a week of never-ending days with other nurses & doctors to the Dominion Republic where they do surgeries on the people there. It's not in a hospital like we are used to here. Half the time there is no running water & you never know when the electricity is going to go out in the middle of a surgery. They take all their own supplies & there's basically no anesthesia & Ext.StrengthTylenol is considered a pain medication. She says that when they bus them back to where they are staying, one of the doctors gives everyone a bottle of "cold" local beer. It's called El Presidenti & it tastes so good right then (I've tried it-YUCK!)When she went away 2 school in Florida I went thru my 2nd childhood. Bought a bright red car with a T-roof, started going out with new friends & old friends (ex: Sandy Eddy Marshall,Debby Hostetler Bicanich) just about every weekend. Deb, Sandy I went 2 the beach & cruised 2 the Bahamas & basically just enjoyed life. We'd all gotten married way too young. It seemed so weird not 2 have 2b the "responsible parent". We were absolutely crazy & it was a really fun phase of my life. When Kelley came back 2 Morgantown I didn't know how 2 act! I met my husband, Rich, about that time. He was (and still is) a great guy. He was a VP at Mylan Pharmaceuticals & treated me like a queen. In fact, when we got engaged we were in Miami 4 a WVU football game & he told me we were going 2 go over 2 the harbor 2 see some of the cruise ships. When we got 2 the ship, he told me he forgot the camera in the car. When he came back he had our luggage (he had secretly packed what we needed while I was at the pool) & that was my 1st clue we were going on a cruise. We had 2 call r kids from the ship, because he kept it so secret that only he & the travel agent nu about it. The 1st night of the crui...Expand for more
se he proposed. He continues 2 find wonderful ways 2 surprise me. While working I would plan my vacations around his business trips & got 2 go 2 New York twice a year, to Paris, 2 Luguno, Switzerland & Lake Cuomo, Italy. We ran off to Las Vegas (also a surprise-just showed up on my doorstep & said "let's go, we're getting married, we'll buy what u need there" -he had already made all the travel plans). We bought a house at Lakeview Estates in Morgantown & I "retired" (lol). We traveled all the time & I saw so many exotic places. Five years ago we bought a place in Hilton Head, SC &went there whenever we had a chance. In fact, a couple years ago Sandy, Debby & I went down 4 a week & had a ball. We spent most of the week laughing so hard we would almost wet r pants (wasn't that was crude). When Rich(after 40+ years at Mylan) we started spending Jan-June in Hilton Head & the rest in Morgantown. We'll probably keep 2 houses forever -because he can't give up WVU football & I can't stay away that long from my daughter & grandsons! I had never spent more than a couple weeks away from them. In fact, as I write this 8/15/08 I'm here in Hilton Head until school starts 8/27 with one of my grandsons. Rennick is 12 & (unfortunately for him) is my little clone. He seems to have inherited my "crazy" traits. His brother,Trey. who is 17, didn't come on the trip because he is a senior at MHS (wow-4 generations) & is on the golf team & has matches almost every day until school starts. He played basketball & football thru grade & middle school. He played on the football team at MHS (I usually disliked most of the guys that played football in high school- WHO KNEW) his first 2 years & then decided 2 concentrate on his "passion" - GOLF. Both are great, handsome, loveable & intelligent boys (they didn't get that from me). No one could have ever told me I could love "anything" as much as I love my daughter. But, when those boys were born it was instant love. This all sounds like the perfect life - and in most ways it is. I have been so blessed. If someone would have told me 20 years ago that my life would be like this, I would have laughed in their face & told them they were crazy!! My life took a turn I could never have imagined or dreamed. Well, anyone who took the time to actually read all of this - ARE YOU CRAZY OR JUST BORED? I've ALWAYS talked "2 much" and I guess I must be the same way with writing. According 2 the bottom of this paper I have 15,437 more characters I could write. I probably could - but then they would have 2 call this a novel!! I only hope ur life is everything you want it 2 be & u are happy. Count your blessings & love the family God has given you. 1/1/2010-Not much of an update- Rennick is now 14 & 6' tall & he's still as weird as I am- Trey graduated last June & is doing great & still loves golf. He went hunting this fall& got his 1st deer! Poor Bambi!I guess it's a "guy" thing. I spend as much time as possible in Hilton Head. In fact got back June 1,went back in Sept. & just got back 2 wks. b4 Christmas.Rich had WVU football& I had the sun & sand.(Sad, but WVU lost the Gator Bowl today to FSU & then basketball to Purdue all in same day-he's beside himself!!) Will probably be heading back in a couple weeks 2 Hilton Head - The ocean is calling (PLUS on a 13 mile long island it's hard to get lost)
