Pamela's Story

Life After graduating in 1983, I joined the Navy in December of the same year. I was stationed in Patuxent River, MD on a Naval Air Station, working at the Counseling and Assistance Center for drug and alcohol abuse. During my first tour, I became pregnant and decided to get out so that I could go to California to be with my husband (September, 1986) David. My daughter, Joyce Ben-Nette, was born in December 1986. Once in CA, I decided to rejoin the Navy after 6 months. During the first six months out there I became a certified SCUBA diver and then went back to Orlando, Florida for a refresher on rejoining the navy. After a month in the sun, I was sent back to work in the same squadron as my husband. This was also on a Naval Air Station in Pt Mugu, CA. In March, 1988, my second daughter, Erin Marie, was born. She looks just like me. In May of 1989, my third, and final, daughter, Genette Renee, was born. In November, 1989, I was transferred to the Navel Reserve Center in Southfield, MI to train naval reservists. My husband was stationed at Selfridge, ANG. Within five months we separated and were divorced in January, 1991. The children went with him. One year later, I left the Navy, honorably discharged, and began working for Supply Tech, Inc in Ann Arbor, MI, as a technical support rep. In April, 1998, I left Supply Tech (now Harbinger Corp) to work as an EDI Analyst for Tenneco Automotive in Monroe, MI (That's Monroe Shocks and Struts). On April 14, 1999, I came out. Yes, I'm gay and I'm proud. This was the happiest day of my life. I'd felt as though I had finally come home. I was myself for the first time in my life! What a relief! And the surprise was that everyone expected it but me. Even several of my cla...Expand for more
ssmates with whom I've kept in contact. Some of you probably know already too. Wouldn't surprise me a bit now. If you really want to contact me - I'm on yahoo as poeticwonder School I spent 8 years in the Navy. I served in Maryland, California and Michigan. I was a yeoman - the officers best friend. I married David Clouser and had three children - all girls. They are Joyce (1986), Erin (1988) and Genette (1989). Yes, we were busy. Then, when I finally realized marriage was not my bag, I'd been married for 4 years. We were divorced in 1991. I exited the Navy in 1992 and became an EDI Analyst for 8 years. In 1999, I realized what everyone knew already and came out of that closet with a shout for joy. Now, although I'm single, I'm happier than I have ever been and far more confident about who I am and who I will be. I attend church, regularly, and am greatly involved in church activities. I still sing all the time and have a song for everything. I also like SHOCK games and carnivals and such. Anyway, now, I have two jobs and still live happily. EDI became too stressful and I was headed for bad health and anti-depressants. None for me, thanks! And to make it all even better, I have the best girlfriend in the world! Her name is Dawn. Well, take care and GOD BLESS! Military I miss all of my friends, from Maryland, especially Ericka Trigg (anyone remember her?). I had a lot of good times hanging out with her. There are so many people I could mention, but not enough time or space to do that. Bob Watson, CWO Bloxham - they come to mind often. They would never believe the effect they had on the life decisions I've made. Wish I could tell them. When I went to CA, Chief Green became a mentor. He was an awesome guy!
