Pamela's Story
Life
In the Summer of '78 I travelled to Europe/Israel to study sociology, art, architecture and work on an archeological dig. Graduated from Allegheny College w/English & Communications degrees. Headed back to Buffalo, my hometown, and worked at Amherst Bee newspaper, Buffalo Sabres Hockey Team & Rich Prod. In '86, I made the big move to New York City to work for a top ad agency,(2 yrs), which was fabulous and exciting (also a 3 hr commute each day from the Princeton area!)
Turned 30 and all things pointed to accepting wild opportunity to go to Fla. Keys (my sister Nanci had moved to Key West)and work at Little Palm Island, a new private island resort. Hooked on Fl's laidback lifestyle, boating and weather--learned to scuba dive, worked part-time on a catamaran, met celebrities, enjoyed stunning sunsets.
I reluctantly left the beautiful serenity of the Keys after 4 yrs.(couldn't live in "Margaritaville" forever) & moved to W.Palm Bch...worked in PR at PGA of America, the staffing industry, & Fundraising/Special Events for American Cancer Society (very satisfying). Published article in Fla. travel book, and enjoyed freelance writing/editing. Life picked up the pace and I married Bill at 40 (and 11 yr. old Adam became my ...Expand for more
stepson). Briefly moved to Memphis when Bill was promoted at John Hancock, then back to Fla.(yeah). I battled and overcame a rare pregnancy-related illness, and it took some time (physically and spiritually)to get back on my feet. Landed a job at a new PR firm writing and doing PR for Office Depot. Lived in Deerfield Beach in a condo near the intracoastal waterway.
The best thing: we adopted a beautiful baby girl, Juliana, from Russia, in Oct. 2003. After the intensity of the adoption process I enjoyed staying at home with her. Then helping Bill's expanding business beckoned so since '05 I've been working part-time in Bill's office doing marketing and writing the newsletter.
Update'06: Some called us crazy --we decided to expand our family and travelled to Russia again (2 trips-May and Sept. to the nether regions of Siberia). This time around we faced high hurdles, a tough judge, mounds of paperwork but perservered to bring home our beautiful second daughter, Jenna.
update '07: We are now living (in a house-yeah!) in beautiful Boca Raton FL. I still love the ocean, but don't seem to get there! Life has had it's challenges, heartaches and joys, but all in all, I'm grateful for friends, family, our neigborhood and church.
