Pat's Story

COMMAND CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT PAT BATTENBERG Chief Battenberg was born in 1962 in the US Naval Station Hospital, Agana, Guam, and graduated high school from Duncanville High School in Texas where he excelled in track and field and won district champ in the pole vault. He also lettered as both a swimmer and diver on his High School swim team. He enlisted in the Air Force in February 1982 and completed basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He has served as a Command Chief, administrative specialist, information manager, and as an executive staff support specialist in several diverse duty assignments, including Space Command, NATO, NORAD, HQ Strategic Air Command, HQ Pacific Air Forces, the Joint Strategic Targeting Planning Staff and on the Air Staff and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon. His overseas assignments included Japan, Germany, and Hawaii. Chief Battenberg arrived at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland in August 2008 as the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 79th Medical Wing and Senior Air Force Enlisted Leader and for the Joint Tactical Forces Capital Medical Region. His responsibilities included the health, morale, welfare, and the proper utilization of over 900 enlisted personnel assigned and was the Air Force's single medical voice for planning and implementing Air Force and joint solutions within the Nation’s Capital Region. Chief Battenberg’s final assignment was as the Command Chief Master Sergeant, Air Force District of Washington, Andrews AFB, MD from 2009 to November 2011. As the Senior Enlisted Advisor for all Air Force enlisted matters and complex issues he was responsible for over 40,000 Air Force personnel assigned within the National Capital Region and 36 countries around the world. Pat married his wife Sherry Lynn Whorley from Clifton Forge, VA, who also served in the Air Force, while attending Technical Training at Keesler AFB, MS in 1982. Chief Battenberg’s career spanned over 30 years while serving his country. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his long service. ASSIGNMENTS 1.
