Patricia (Pat)'s Story
Life
I Married Bill Shaw 1978. Our 1rst son Gordie, was born 1979 and lived only 11 days. I had cancer the same year. Our next son was born in 1980 and daughter in 1984. I started Nursing School 1987 and Graduated 1991. There were few Jobs in Vancouver Island where we were living so I broadened my horizons and found a job Beaumont Texas. After 3 yrs in the deep south, we moved North to Washington State and I lived in Wenatchee, Everett and Tukwila before returning home 2012 to Vancouver Island. My son Kyle his wife and 5 y/o son live in Nanaimo as does my Daughter Sara and her 17 y/o son. I live in Ladysmith and I'm happily retired. I visit family in Calgary about once or twice a year.
School
I was painfully shy during my school years except with in my small circle of friends. We were not concidered part of the in crowd and were often picked on by the other more popular people. Jr. high and High school was not a favorite period in my life but as I grew older and spent time with many types of people I realized that I wasted time and energy envying the "in People" and wanting to be liked when I had everything I needed good friends and family who car...Expand for more
ed for me as a person. I really don't care what others think of me and my family. With all that has happened in my life I could have easily become bitter but I am proud of the contributions that I have made in my life and I can honestly say that I am a good person with a good and trusting heart.
Workplace
After grad I took a year off where I worked at a minimum wage job. The following year I spent a year at SAIT. Not finding that very satisfying I joined the Navy and for the next 6 yrs I worked in Administration in Victoria, Halifax and Finally back in Calgary where I recieved an honourary Discharge.
The next few years I worked For the Canadian Tire Corp in Calgary and Victoria. 1987 I Started Nursing School Graduating in 1991. I worked for three years At St Elizabeth Hospital Beaumont Tx USA Pediatric ICU. 1995-2002 Charge Nurse Day Shift on a med/Surg unit in Wenatchee WA. I worked in the recovery room of a large hospital in Everett WA them was the manager of an Interventional Radiology Clinic before returning north to Vancouver Island. I worked in the local hospital for several years then taught Nursing until I retired early at 62 to Ladysmith.
